A nice fall day in the valley at Casa Del Sol near Donna, Texas in November 1989. Dusty loved to be outside in the sun enjoying all the things that went on around him. He was never a dog to bark with out some reason, as a small puppy he loved children but would shy away from them if they tried to pick him up. In this picture he is looking for his friend Sissy, she was a black and tan Chihuahua that was almost twice his size. Our friends that traveled with us when we went to Texas for the winter stayed in the same RV Park. Maxine and Duane Morehead were Sissy's owners. |

Dusty was very alert and spotted someone walking down the canal dike that was behind Casa Del Sol. He really could never get enough of the sun on the warm, sometimes hot fall days in the valley. We always wondered what was going on in his mind, he was a gentle, loving, and a very affectionate dog, requiring lots of attention and love. If ever there was a example of what a dog should be to its owners, he fit that category. At times he had to be the center of attention and was jealous of anyone that received more than him. He would not get mad but you could see in his eyes that he was displeased if he were left out of any activities going on around him. He took to strangers as long as one of us was there and with in a few feet, he always kept his eyes on us too make sure we did not slip away. |

Neil and Dotty McDaniels just brought "Max" their large german Sheppard out from their motor home. Dusty always ignored other dogs that were not of his breed, he put up with them but had very little to do with them. I suppose it was his size that influenced him as to the amount of attention he gave to other dogs. He paid very little attention to cats or other animals other than a normal curiosity to what they were doing. He was a great companion to have on long trips and he really loved to travel until he was much older. We miss his questioning looks, his soft single lick that he usually reserved for our private moments together. He loved to eat catfish and vegetables, green beans were his favorite veggies along with peas and carrots. He would eat some meats but still would prefer to have his fish, chicken and roasted turkey breasts above all the rest. |

Dusty often acted like he knew exactly what you were doing, he would ham it up for a camera shot or completely ignore you were taking the pictures. His ears were almost always straight and rigid, very alert with the eyes and was always listening for sounds around him. I guess the one thing most we miss is those big bright eyes always looking at us or for us. He would greet us at the door of the motor home and later our home, first with those eyes and then running in very tight circles till one of us would pick him up and then he would have to go to the other before you could put him down. We had trained him to chew on paper toilet rolls and he would have to go grab one as he was so happy to see us back home. He did not like his life to be upset by any circumstances that were beyond his control. |

As the saying goes, "a picture is worth a thousand words", I really believe its worth more! This one was taken at Casa Del Sol, the hole in the ground next to him was at one time a fire ants colony but we usually took care of them as soon as we got there. They were behind the motor home in the park and probably 50 to 60 feet away from where we parked. We never wanted Dusty to tangle with them and as nosey as he was, there was always that chance. We were at Casa Del Sol in the winters from 1985 to 1989 before we changed parks and moved over to Texas Trails at Edinburg, Texas from 1989 to 1995. It was a very nice new park with more facilities and much larger. Dusty always adjusted to where ever we went. |

Dusty at Bluff Lake, near Maquoketa, Iowa at the road that leads to the campground. Still vigilant and always cautious, he must seen something that was of interest to him. Bluff Lake was a primitive campground but it was a quite place with two small lakes that set by the bluffs over looking the Maquoketa river. It originally was a cat fish farm and now is known for its fish fries and eating place. Dusty took many field trips with us in the Bluff Lake area, we would go to the large open meadows where he loved to snoop and play. After the long walks we would have to carry him most of the way back to the motor home. The campground there has long been closed down, I suppose it was about 1993 or 94, when the owners decided it was not needed. |

Dusty watching for his dad to come back home, he was always worried that his dad had left him. This time he spotted him coming up the hill after he was done fishing and he was not quite sure it was him. It did not take long for him to find out and then the celebration would begin, running and wanting to be picked up. There was always that one lick on the cheek to let you know he really was happy to have you with him. |

We were at The Crater of Diamonds near Murfreesboro, Arkansas in the spring of 1988 on the old logging road that runs down through the timber from the campground. You will notice Dusty is a little over 1 year old at this time. He enjoyed these walks when ever we went to a new area. On this particular trip to the diamond mines he encountered his first stick bug, about 4" long. It was quite a site to see him react when that stick moved, he did not know whether to run or bark so he just came back to us never knowing what it was. After we got back to the motor home every stick that he saw he had to sniff or check it out for a few days before he would go near it. It was a few days before he would pick up a stick to bring to us. |

We were at the Walnut Grove campground at Anamosa, Iowa, along side the upper Maquoketa river. Just as usual Dusty is enjoying the sun on warm July day in 1990. The campground had plenty of shade trees but as usual he had parked himself in the sun. He was just content to sit down and watch the activities in the campground from a distance. |
